About F

That's me, writing in my journal on the porch at the cabin. I've been journaling for decades, so blogging is easy.
I'm planning to retire soon, no firm date yet but March 21 seems about right. S & I currently live in South Carolina. We're getting closer to 'first motion', the day we depart for our new simple life in the Jay wilderness.
I've worked in aerospace since I was 18 when I enlisted in the Air Force. I spent 6 years in the USAF, active duty and then reserve while I pursued degrees in mechanical engineering degree and accounting. Then I had the incredible fortune to land a career on the manned space program. I stuck with it for 30 years, nearly all of it on the space shuttle program at the Kennedy Space Center. That's where I met S. When that program wound down I had an opportunity to finish out my career in commercial aviation. Most of my career involved managing rocket scientists and airplane engineers and working directly with the flight hardware at the launch site or the flightline. I've participated in aerospace history - thrilling successes and tragic failure and learned how to make decisions under some fairly high pressure situations.
I read a lot, write, hike, cycle, camp, like to travel and learn new things. I'm an active stock trader and we essentially bought our property with some of the gains from the dot-com era. I've taught myself cabinetmaking and lately, soapmaking. I also like to cook...and I'm a vegan.
